Some Steps Towards a Scientometric Analysis of Publications in Machine Translation

Recently a large variety of evaluation criteria have become necessary prerequisites in academia to allow for proper distribution of (e.g., financial) resources. While many fields have quite some history in evaluating their research in various directions this does not seem to be the case for the field of machine translation (beyond some effectiveness measures). In this paper we raise some questions in this respect while performing some initial steps regarding a scientometric analysis within the field of machine translation based on some common publications.
